Quality Control

At BWD, quality isn't just on the website – it's checked, tested, and documented daily.

We primarily source our slate slabs from a wholesaler in Holland. Additionally, we work with selected suppliers from Germany and Asia. In case of bottlenecks or longer delivery times, we supplement our inventory with selected products from Amazon. However, many other tested suppliers could not meet our quality standards.

Every new batch is internally inspected and tested. We check, among other things:

  • Surface
  • Material properties
  • Thickness and dimensional accuracy
  • Structure and workmanship
  • Engraving behavior
  • Quality differences within the same batch

In some cases, we even had to test materials sold as slate that were not made of genuine slate.

Even with our NFC cards, we deliberately prioritize quality over mass-produced goods. Our cards come exclusively from a selected dealer in Korea. Many tested cards from other suppliers did not pass our internal tests.

Problems included:

  • Cards that could only be written to a few times
  • Varying thicknesses within the same batch
  • Dimensional deviations
  • Poor material quality
  • Faulty or unstable NFC chips
  • Cards that could not be written to at all

After numerous tests and high development costs, we have deliberately opted for fixed suppliers. We have long-term agreements with our selected partners. Should a material or supplier change, we will communicate this transparently, as it may affect properties, quality, or prices.

Our machines are specifically used for precise work. We currently work with, among others:

  • Longer X Ray 5
  • xTool F1

For our quality controls, we also use various testing and precision tools:

  • Microscope with up to 1000x zoom
  • Connection to mobile phone and PC for detailed analysis
  • Precision scale
  • Diamond tester
  • Digital calipers for millimeter-accurate measurements
  • Magnifying glasses and precision tools
  • Cutters, scalpels, and tweezers
  • Further tools for material and surface testing

Many of these tests are never seen by the customer later.
That is exactly our aspiration.

For us, quality begins long before engraving – already with the selection, control, and testing of each individual material.

We only sell products that we can stand behind 100%.
